avn23_haiti_27197eJan 24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The devastating Earthquake that hit the poverty stricken island Nation Haiti on Jan 12, 2010 made the place into a living hell and caused immeasurable damages. However, relief efforts poured in from various parts of the world and several NGOs and celebrities donated huge amounts of money for the rehabilitation work. The star studded Haiti Telethon was arranged to raise funds for the victims of the natural calamity who have lost nearly everything. The event which was attended by the leading singers and actors of Hollywood and UK was a resounding success and a lot of networks aired the event live. From the initial reports it seems that the donations have run into $57 millions. The amount is likely to go up as the counting process is still on.

The CEO and president of Entertainment Industry Foundation, Lisa Paulsen said in her statement that the donations have indeed exceeded the expected level. The entity has been selected for overseeing the funds collection and distribution. All the big stars of Hollywood such as Madonna, George Clooney, Bruce Springsteen and Brad Pitt came together in the event. They donated personally for the Quake victims and some of the stars also performed. As a matter of fact, the donations came through various channels.

However, the donation will not stop after the event. The tracks and album of the Telethon is available for download in iTunes site. The money used for buying the tracks will also go to the Haiti victims. The organizations that will receive donations for the victims include Clinton-Bush Haiti Foundation, UNICEF and Oxfam America.
