Guy Ritchie ‘plans to make gangster musical’

London, May 1 (ANI): British filmmaker Guy Ritchie is set to make a gangster musical, it has emerged.
Reports have suggested that the filmmaker’s musical would be a cross between ‘Wurzel Gummidge’-a TV show about a talking scarecrow, and ‘Bullitt’-the stylish Steve McQueen crime caper.
Jason Statham is going to play the lead, while there’s also a role for a singer trying to be an actress, which could be a subtle reference to Guy’s ex-wife Madonna.
“Guy and Jason are collaborating closely on this top secret musical project. They’re well into development and realise they’re probably going to get a lot of stick,” The Sun quoted a source as saying.
The source added: “But Guy’s of the opinion that people have been having a pop at him throughout his career, so he couldn’t care less.
“He wants to do something audacious and a musical is just that.”
However, one of ‘Crank’ star Statham’s pals has claimed that the actor is thrilled to do the role.
The pal said: “He’s really excited. He’s been watching loads of vintage musicals on DVD. He’s poring over Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers classics.
“But West Side Story has really captured his imagination. He was brought to tears the first time he watched it.” (ANI)
