October 27, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma and his films basically survive for the controversies around them. Rakta Charitra, the latest film of RGV is the biggest controversial film by the filmmaker. Controversy has acted like a ‘magic wand’ for the movie.
The movie starring Vivek Oberoi has received an overwhelming response from the audience in Andhra Pradesh. The peace activists and NGOs had earlier objected to the release of the movie. The film had to face a number of controversies because of its relation to a notorious political scam. The activists oppose the release of the movie expecting unwanted fresh political violence.
The use of the name of the district Anantapur was also objected and RGV changed it to Anandapuram to avoid any controversy. Some scenes with reference to former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao were also objected and they were censored.
The story of the movie is based on the real life dispute over some land between families of Suryanarayana Reddy alias Maddelachervu Suri and gangster-turned-politician Paritala Ravi.
Ravi was assassinated by the followers of Congress leader Suri in 2005 after several attempts of murder. One attempt was taken in 1997 at the Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad. Ravi was saved at that attack but 25 people were killed and several others injured in that bomb blast.
RGV claimed the film to be the most violent film in Indian cinema but now it seems to take the reputation of being the most controversial film till today!
