Guadalcanal War Episode On HBO’s “The Pacific”

warMar 15, (THAINDIAN NEWS) War television series “The Pacific” aired its first episode on HBO titled “Guadalcanal-Leckie’ on Sunday, March 14. The Pacific happens to be a 10 part television series that relates many a known and unknown tales from World War II. Sunday was the premiere episode which narrated the story of the violent attack upon Pearl Harbor, where Sergeant John Basilone was out in the ground with his troops moving ahead to crush his enemies in a bitter struggle. Battle of Guadalcanal was codenamed as Operation Watchtower and was fought between August 7, 1942 to February 9, 1943.

The Jap troops took over the Western Pacific conquering islands all around the pacific so as to disrupt any and every form of communication in between United States and New Zealand. Guadalcanal struggle gained momentum with the construction Lunga Point airfield upon the north coast of the island. The ten episode series of “The Pacific” portrays the journey of the U.S. Marines in their battle against the Japanese troops on Guadalcanal. They marched through the rain forests of Cape Gloucester, moving ahead to secure the stronghold of Peleliu. The road was tough, the sky was dark and surplus too little to consume. The troops traversed through some hard boiled days in Iwo Jima accompanied by the terror of Okinawa. After days of vehement killing and bloodshed, they finally held their flag of victory.

“The Pacific” war saga happens to be a production of Steven Spielberg along with Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman. HBO Films,Seven Network, Playtone and Dreamworks are all equal associates in this project.
