In a previous story I told you about the 41 year old ex “Growing Pain” star Andrew Koenig. He had been missing since Valentine’s Day when he failed to return from a trip to visit friends in Vancouver. His father revealed his depression, and feared he had planned not to come home.

Sadly, I am bringing an update to that story, since the body of Andrew Koenig was found in a wooded area of Stanley Park at lunchtime on Thursday. His father, Walter Koenig spoke out, while barely managing to hold back tears, “My son took his own life,” he told the police at the Vancouver Police Department. In a voice heavy with emotion, Koenig described Andrew as “a great guy . . . and a rich human being. He was obviously in a lot of pain.” Walter told reporters that the news has saddened the entertainment world. He added that he has received “hundreds of emails from people who say they are depressed and have contemplated the same course of action.”

Andrew had reportedly suffered a lifetime of depression, and had recently shown signs of being suicidal. He had returned borrowed items to friends by leaving the items on their doorsteps instead of visiting with them, and gave away several of his own personal things. He had also refused work lately, as if he did not plan to be here.

Choking back his grief, Walter stated, “If we’ve learned anything from this, it’s that there are people out there who really, really care. Ultimately it may not be enough, but before you make that final decision, check it out again, talk to somebody, And to families of people susceptible to this type of behavior, don’t ignore it, don’t rationalize it, extend a hand.” His wife Judith said “Many people who are suffering from depression don’t realize that there is help. Connect with each other if there is something bothering you because there is love out there.”
