The fifth season finale of the popular American prime-time medical drama Grey’s Anatomy has ended in a cliffhanger, with two of the shows regular cast members flat-lining in the shows final minutes.

However fans of the popular ABC program will need to wait until season six of Grey’s Anatomy, which commences filming in the Fall, to find out if the condition of Isobel “Izzie” Stevens, played by Katherine Heigl and George O’Malley, played by T.R. Knight is terminal or not.

In amongst all of this drama Bailey gave up her pediatric fellowship and her husband, Cristina decided to take a chance on Owen, and Derek and Meredith pledged their love by Post-It notes.

Based around the medical staff of the fictitious Seattle Grace Hospital, Grey’s Anatomy won the 2007 Golden Globe Award for Best Drama Television Series and has had multiple Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series for the past two years.

An estimated 15 million people tuned in for the two-hour long season finale, which ended with Stevens, dressed in her prom dress, and O’Malley, dressed in an Army uniform, meeting in the figurative elevator to heaven.

As the shows doctors scrambled to save both ‘patients’, the episode concluded leaving fans sitting on the edge of their seats.
