A speaking conference at the hospital has the residents Doctors; Webber, Bailey and Torres looking back to discover what made them better doctors.

Dr. Webber a speaker at the conference talks about his residency at Seattle Grace dating back to 1982, when Ellis Grey changed his life as a doctor. He tells the interns and new hospital residences to look around because their biggest influences are sitting next to them. When Dr. Webber and Dr. Ellis Grey find a possible reason while a patient they had was falling ill and no one was offering a diagnoses. Telling a patient that he could have GRIDS better known as AIDS, upsetting the patient he refuses treatment and threatens the hospital with a lawsuit. Dr. Webber and Grey were put on probation for the wrongful diagnoses of the patient, since in 1982 the disease was not all that com mon and taboo. A few months later the man was back at the hospital with flow blown AIDS and Richard and Ellis were back handling the case. Standing alongside his hospital bed they stayed with him till his death. It was then as he thought back in time that he remembered taking his first drink that helped him cope with the affair we was now having with Dr. Ellis Grey.

Bailey tells her audience about how Dr. Webber taught her to be a shark her short height was having her go unseen, so she needed to be aggressive. Richard Webber helped her to be taller and gave her the strength to help a female patient find a cause with her illness. Spending hours studying the case and researching Miranda Bailey finds her voice and finds the reason for the young girls pain. Explaining her diagnoses to her attending Dr. Belo’s, she points out all the misdiagnoses and she can’t understand why her resident teaching doctor after three years didn’t see what Dr. Bailey found in three months. Dr. Webber overhearing Bailey’s rants calls her into his office and explains to her that she needs to sit their quietly so Dr. Belo’s thinks she is being reprimanded for her behavior towards Belo. It was then Miranda knew her need to help and heal was with Seattle Grace Hospital.

Callie speaks of the time when a polio patient came to her to fix his legs that are so badly deformed from the disease. After hours of surgery and putting her patient at risk, she does what she can to help repair his legs so he has a change to walk. Realizing she does not have the knowledge to allow the repairs of the legs she ends the surgery. Talking to the patient she explains to him the difficulties with the surgery and apologizes she could not help him walk. His appreciation for even the chance to feel normal for once is explained to Callie; not seeing the curves in his legs from the polio is enough for him at this point. Callie Torres and Alex Kar ev see him move his toes and decide they need one more shot at helping him walk. Time and dedication to their patient, rebuilding his legs and regaining his strength we see him walk the halls of Seattle Grace.

The dedication and care these doctors have at Seattle Grace is why we keep watching their talents grow.
