Aug 12 (IBNS) Neil Young will be named as the 2010 MusiCares Person of the Year, it was decided by the Recording Academy.

The LA Times reported that the musician will be honored at a charity gala on Jan. 29, two days before the organization hosts the Grammy Awards.

Artists receiving the recognition, which benefits the charity arm of the Recording Academy, traditionally receive a tribute on the Grammy Awards, which telecast live for the East Coast on Jan. 31.

The honor is given to artists, who have dedicated a portion of their career to charitable and philanthropic causes.

Young is the co-founder of Farm Aid in 1985 with fellow musicians Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp. They help to raise money for family farms.

The organization will also host their annual concert, with this year’s edition set for Oct. 4 in St. Louis, with Young, Nelson, Mellencamp, Wilco, Jason Mraz and Dave Matthews, among others, set to perform.

Young is also heavily involved in the Bridge School, which he and his wife, Pegi, helped found. The school is dedicated to serving children with severe speech and physical impairments.

Young also hosts an annual concert to raise fund for the institution. Dates are set for the weekend of Oct. 24, but a lineup has not yet been announced.
