New Orleans, Mar 24 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Gospel Singer Marva Wright has died at the age of 62 years on Tuesday. Her former manager Adam Shipley confirmed her death, and also added that she died at her daughter’s house. He also added that she died because of the complications, that arose from the stroke that she had suffered in 2009.
She was a well known Blues and Gospel singer, and she was also known for her sultry blues songs too. Her major hits include “Heartbreakin’ Woman” and “Mama, He Treats Your Daughter Mean.” She used to tour Europe and other spots in United States to perform at the various blues festivals. She even had her own band called the BMWs, and a huge crowd used to be guaranteed whenever she used to perform at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
Her mother was responsible for igniting the love of music in her being, as she herself used to sing and play the piano at the church, which had a major influence in Marva’s life. “My mother would go to the national Baptist convention. When it convened in Chicago, Mahalia would say, ‘Girl, you don’t need to get no hotel. Stay with me.’ That’s what my mother would do. I met Mahalia when I was 9 years old, but I never realized she was that popular until I got older”, said Marva Wright.
