Gospel Legend Walter L Hawkins Dies of Cancer

July 12 (THAINDIAN NEWS) World famous gospel singer and spiritual persona, Bishop Walter L Hawkins has passed away at the age of 61 years old, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. The news was released by ‘BET.com’.
During his career which lasted for over 30 years, Hawkins released over 14 albums between 1975 and 2010, both in a solo genre and with his family gospel group. A few of the most well known songs which were performed by Hawkins and hid group are ‘Thank You’, ‘Holy One’, and ‘Going Up Yonder’ and were known to many African American churches all over the United States.
These songs helped Hawkins gain an induction into the ‘Gospel Music Hall of Fame’ as well as the ‘Trailblazer Award’ which is from the BMI publishing company. Hawkins was also the founder and pastor of the Love Center Church which is located in Hawkins’ home town of Oakland, California.
Several famous gospel artists made their grief known in Twitter this morning, such as Dave Hollister, who said that his “heart was deeply saddened” and Mary Mary singer, Erica Campbell who stated, “My heart is so heavy. Bishop Walter Hawkins gave us more than just songs. I hope he’s dancing with the Angels right now. May he rest in peace!”
