The story of a crew of misfit kids, played by such actors as Corey Feldman, Sean Astin, and Josh Brolin, among others, who proceed on an adventure filled search for treasure, complete with a “gentle giant monster” and a few bad guys, was filmed in Astoria, Oregon 25 years ago this month.

That’s right, ‘The Goonies’ turned 25 in June, and a huge celebration was held in Astoria, as fans from all over made the trip to Oregon to do the ‘Truffle Shuffle’. In a report from The Washington Post, the party was a blast, “All of the hotel rooms are full. All of the bus tours are sold out. The autograph lines for the cast meet ‘n’ greets are five hours long. Hundreds of fans trip blissfully from costume contests to quiz nights. It’s like a stoner-free “Big Lebowski” fest. They greet each other on the street with “Hey, you Guu-uuuys!” — the official greeting of the Goonies.”

The mayor of Astoria, who was himself an extra in the movie a quarter of a century ago was the judge in a ‘Goonies’ costume contest, said that the movie is a part of the town’s history. “As we go,” he said,” so go the Goonies.”
