Jade Goody London, March 22 (IANS) Friends and family of British reality TV star Jade Goody have asked for privacy and peace after the actress passed away early Sunday morning.
Terminally-ill Goody lost her battle with cancer at her Upshire, Essex home and breathed her last at 3.14 a.m. and mourners started arriving at the house to pay tribute to the actress within minutes of the news breaking. They left floral tributes at the gates of her home, reports mirror.co.uk.

“Family and friends would like privacy at last,” said Goody’s mother Jackie Budden outside the home.

Added Max Clifford, Goody’s publicist: “She has touched the hearts and minds of an awful lot of people worldwide. The closer I got to her, the more admiration I had for her. It takes an awful lot of courage to face death the way she did.

He also hoped the the star’s family would be left in peace to grieve.

The 27-year-old actress slipped into a coma-like state Saturday and was declared too ill to spend any time with her sons Bobby, five and Freddie, four on Mother’s Day (Sunday).

On Saturday night, her kids had both been stopped from seeing their ailing mother, as she didn’t want them to see her in that condition.

Kept under heavy sedation, she had been unconscious for three days since Friday and not eaten for nine. She last woke March 19, when she sat up briefly and sang in a garbled voice.

Goody had been at home since leaving the Royal Marsden Hospital in West London March 12, with nurses looking after her, as she wanted to spend her last days at her place with family.

She was diagnosed with cervical cancer last year before being informed in February this year that the disease had spread to her liver, groin and bowel making it a terminal case.

She was christened in a 20-minute ceremony with her kids so that the two could keep in touch “through Jesus” at the hospital March 7 with assistance from nurses.

She married beau Jack Tweed Feb 21 at Down Hall Country House Hotel in Essex.

OK! magazine paid a reported 700,000 pounds to cover the event and Goody stipulated that the entire amount be passed on to both her sons.

The wedding was also filmed as part of a documentary series following the star and was screened on digital channel Living.

Tweed, is now awaiting sentence after he was found guilty of attacking a taxi driver and threatening to stab him after leaving a club in Essex last year. He was jailed for 18 months last September after assaulting a teenager with a golf club.

Before dying, Goody had desired her funeral service to be a “celebration of life”.

“She wants it to be a big celebration because it’s her final farewell to everybody. She’s the world’s first reality television star. It will be a very Jade Goody event - exactly the way she wants it,” said Clifford.

Goody had also expressed her wish to have a charity set up in her name after her death.

“She sees it working in a similar way to the Princess of Wales Memorial Fund, using her name to support worthy causes,” a friend said.
