Dec 15, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Golden Globe nominations for 2011 has been announced and the nominations have created sensation among the people. The nominations for the coveted award were declared on Tuesday at Beverly Hills of California. Actress Katie Holmes announced the nominations in various categories and she was accompanied by fellow presenters Josh Duhamel and Blair Underwood. The Golden Globe Awards will take place at Beverly Hills on Jan 16th 2011. The nominations resulted in getting mixed reactions from the viewers as there were both expected nominations and surprises. The British period drama based on a little known episode in the Royal family of UK, ‘The King’s Speech’ dominated the nomination ceremony and it bagged 7 nominations. It was followed by the Facebook film ‘The Social Network’ which won six nominations.
Christopher Nolan’s complex psychological thriller ‘Inception’ and “Black Swan” a psychological ballet thriller won the nomination for the best motion drama. ‘The Fighter’, starring Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg also won six nominations. A big disappointment of the nomination round was the exclusion of ‘True Grit’. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association gave the film a miss even though it has been getting rave reviews.
The latest Johnny Depp starrer The Tourist, which also has Angelina Jolie in its cast won three nominations in the Golden Globe 2011 nomination round, its average box office collections and critical panning notwithstanding. Johnny Depp won twin best actor nominations for ‘The Tourist’ and the CGI heavy animated flick ‘Alice In Wonderland’. ‘Easy A’, which was a probable contender did not win any nomination in comedy section. Javier Bardem starrer ‘Biutiful’, a Spanish film was nominated as a contender in the best foreign language film.
