Washington, July 26 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Glenn Beck is not new to controversy and he caused another one when he compared the youth camp where part of the massacre in Norway occurred to “Hitler Youth” camp. The comparison has caused an outrage because of the nature of the attacks that took place at the camp.
The comment comes just hours after it emerged that the main suspect might have been influenced by Christian extremism.
During his national radio broadcast program, Beck said that, “There was a shooting at a political camp, which sounds a little like, you know, the Hitler youth. I mean, who does a camp for kids that’s all about politics? Disturbing.”
The comments drew sharp criticism from various quarters including the group Coalition to Stop Gun Violence. The Washington-based campaign group issued a statement condemning the comments of Beck. The group called Beck’s comment “absolutely disgusting”.
Beck was fired from his job at FOX News earlier this year. While working for FOX News, Beck made several other controversial comments which he often ended up apologizing for. Torbjørn Eriksen, the former press secretary for Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg, described Beck’s comment as “a new low” for Tea Party darling.
More than 60 people were killed at a camp meeting in Utoya last week.
