Give kiss a miss urge Hindus
July 25th, 2009 - 12:16 pm ICT by Sampurn Wire ( Leave a comment )Hindus have urged Bollywood and Central Board of Film Certification of India to go slow on re-introducing kissing in films and blatant westernization.
Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that India and Hindus belong to an ancient civilization with certain set of norms and we were proud of that. Crude westernization was not the correct path to take, as everything Western was not always right and appropriate for us.
“Kambakkht Ishq” (Unfortunate Love, Sabbir Khan), “Hum Tum” (We You, Kunal Kohli), “Jab We Met” (When We Met, Imtiaz Ali), “Ru-Ba-Ru” (Face-to-Face, Arjun Bali), “Yuvvraaj”(Prince, Subhash Ghai), “Karma, Confessions And Holi” (Manish Gupta), “Murder” (Mahesh Bhatt), “Bachna Ae Haseeno”(Beware O Beautiful Ones, Siddharth Anand), “New York”(Kabir Khan), “Dev. D”(Anurag Kashyap), etc., were some of the examples of kissing on screen in the recent past, and upcoming “Love Aaj Kal” (Love Now-a-Days, Imtiaz Ali), “Rang Rasia” (Colours of Passion, Ketan Mehta) and “Kites”(Anurag Basu) are also said to be showing kisses.
Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, pointed out that just for plain mercantile greed, Bollywood was trying to destroy the age old traditions and value system with the irrelevant arguments of “keeping with the times”, “globalization”, etc. In addition to Hindus, various other religious groups in India also were also supportive of the idea of movies staying within some moral parameters.
As cinema was a powerful and influential medium, when making movies Bollywood should be thinking of all the populace and not just minority upper classes that lived in their own compartments in bigger cities of India, Rajan Zed stressed.
