June 6, (THAINDIAN NEWS) With the exception of Robert Downey Jr.- Gwyneth Paltrow starrer ‘Iron Man 2′ and the last installment of Shrek, no other Hollywood movies have done good business at the box office so far in 2010.
Even in the third week of its release ‘Shrek: The Final Chapter’ is doing very well and it grossed $6.5 million to its credit. That was slightly ahead of the recently released comic flick ‘Get Him to the Greek’. The latter is a production of Judd Apatow and the critics think this comedy has the potential to become a slipper hit this year.
Its opening weekend gross worth $6.2 million looks pretty good. ‘Get Him to the Greek’ did better than ‘The Killers’, starring Ashton Kutcher and was way ahead of the horror sci-fi mix Splice. It is likely to leave behind two other recent releases Prince of Persia and Sex and the city 2.
Written and directed by the creator of the 2008 blockbuster ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’, Nicholas Stoller, the new comedy also reunites the screen pair of Russell Brand and Jonah Hill. Whether they can recreate the magic remains to be seen.
Russell Brand plays a musical star in the film who is on a downslide. His girlfriend ditches him and takes away their son from him as well. Jonah Hill plays Aaron Green a firebrand young college graduate. He offers help to the star to resurrect his dwindling career and that is where the fun ride begins.
Russell Brand fits in the role of the music star with aplomb. The sex and drug rides in the film are also realistic.
