George Strait is the Artist of the DecadeMay 29th, 2009 - 12:04 am ICT by GD
George Strait has been honored with the prestigious and much respected ‘Artist of the Decade’ title by CBS TV Special. The CBS has been honoring and celebrating artists and musicians across decades. Strait, the musical genius as he is, should have been given the recognition much before. To celebrate his music and hand him his award, the organizers of CBS News are organizing a musical show on the channel called Academy of Country Music. The show will feature some of the biggest names in the music industry like Taylor Smith, Martina McBride, Faith Hill to name a few. Moreover, the host for the evening would be Garth Brooks. This is no great surprise though as he was the man who was given the same award for the decade of 1990s. It is justified that it is he who hands Strait the award to make it special for the new winner.
However, the fans of Strait are not satisfied. They question if it is justified to give him an award that judges the singers and music of the last decade. What about the last fifty years! Strait is a name, they are sure, would feature in a list of the top artists of the last half a century!
George Harvey Strait is a Grammy winner who is known as the ‘King of Country’ for his memorable and incomparable country music tracks. He has created a niche for himself, which is a combination of western swing music, ballads, traditional country melodies and honky-tonk styles. He has won the CMA entertainer award in 1989 and 1990. His 38 straight hit albums are only after Presley and the Beetles.
