abc1Dec. 15, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Dec. 14 saw the debut appearance of George Stephanopoulos in “Good Morning America”. He had been offered the post almost two weeks back, but the announcement of his formal entry into the team had been made only on Thursday. He had earlier been a correspondent in “This Week”, and was posted in Washington. He will also be taking up the job for the chief political correspondent for the political news covered by ABC.

When asked why George Stephanopoulos took up such a long time to announce his decision, he said that it had been a difficult decision for him to take. He admitted that his roots had been in Washington and that he loved working with “This Week”, but that more than everything, it was very hard for him to pack up and leave Washington for good, considering that he and his wife, Ali Wentworth, loves the city, a feeling that is shared by their two daughters, Elliott and Harper.

He was introduced to the audience by his co-host Robin Roberts in a “new day, new anchor” chestnut. The first appearance of George Stephanopoulos in “Good Morning America” was graced by the presence of David Axelrod, the senior political adviser to President Barack Obama. He joked with George Stephanopoulos during the interview, saying that it was strange to be seeing him on a Monday instead of a Sunday. It was taken in good humor by the debutante anchor, who said that he reciprocated the feeling. His debut in the show, that has met with some cynicism, went off quite well, apparently.
