George Clooney, Tom Hanks urge union members to vote for new deal
June 1st, 2009 - 6:54 pm ICT by ANILondon, Jun 1 (ANI): Actors George Clooney and Tom Hanks have lent their voice to the Screen Actors Guild by urging union members to vote in favour of a new deal with Hollywood’s major studios.
The two, along with around 500 other actors, signed a statement on May 29 that “wholeheartedly” recommended that SAG’s 120,000 members should vote “yes” on the new labour contract, reports the Daily Star.
It is believed to have more concessions from the studios.
Since last June, the Screen Actors Guild and Hollywood’s top studio executives had been locked in nine months of tense negotiations over actors’ pay in light of growing technology, with ads expanding to the Internet.
In April, both parties shook hands over a new agreement.
And the membership is currently voting on a new deal, with other members in favour including Sally Field, Patricia Heaton and Rob Lowe.
The result of the vote is expected in June. (ANI)
