George Clooney Leads Telethon To Raise Funds For Haiti Victims

clooneyJan 18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Amidst widespread devastation in the island nation of Haiti following the massive earthquake, Hollywood actor George Clooney has taken the initiative to organize a telethon with the aim of raising funds for the victims of the disaster.

The “Up in the Air” star is arranging the event in collaboration with MTV Networks which is sponsoring the event that is scheduled to be held on January 22. The national telethon is expected to be a star-studded affair with a huge lineup of celebrities who are likely to participate in the much anticipated event to turn it into a great success.

A spokesperson of the much acclaimed actor has added that George Clooney and the MTV Networks are working closely to organize the national telethon although intrinsic detailing of the event are still being worked out.

The two hour telethon, which would be aired in a number of channels, is likely to witness the participation of around 40 celebrities which would include musical artists, movie stars as well as television personalities. The celebrities who are likely to perform in the telethon include Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Bono, Alicia Keys, Sting, among others.

It has been revealed that Wyclef Jean would be hosting the event directly from Haiti with CNN’s Anderson Cooper joining him from New York. At the same time, George Clooney would be leading the broadcast from Los Angeles. Moreover, social networking sites Facebook and MySpace have also joined the venture as official social-media partners.

The Caribbean island of Haiti was stuck with a major earthquake last Tuesday which left thousands dead and rendered many homeless.
