Gene Shalit To Leave “Today” Tomorrow

Gene ShalitNov 10, (THAINDIAN NEWS) What would “Today” show be like, if one of its integral part, Gene Shalit decides to leave the show? No one ever knew the answer. However, now they will. Gene Shalit had previously announced that he will take his retirement from the show soon. Unfortunately, the day is tomorrow.

On Thursday, November 11, the “Today” show will celebrate his tenure and contribution to the show and the entire channel. He started working in the show in 1973, about forty years back, when he replaced Joe Garagiola as a regular contributor. After that he has probably been the best entertainment and arts critic so far. Gene Shalit said in an interview that it is enough already and now he would like to work in radio and looking for more commercial opportunities. He is also busy working on his book, namely “Procrastination Is A Full Time Job”. Gene Shalit was best known for his wit and good sense of punning. His latest works namely “As Iron Man, Downey gives a riveting performance, ” and “Some call it Shutter Island, but I call it ‘Shudder Island.” is still celebrated and highly appreciated. The man made a mark of his own, with his personal witty style that includes the typical unruly hair, a bushy mustache and his penchant for bow ties. His segment has already been curtailed and is limited to two “Critics Corner” segments a month, which started its history in 1952. After his retirement from the show he will be highly missed.

“Today” Executive Producer Jim Bell describes Gene Shalit as a treasure of his show. To him, he is not only a television legend, but also an American icon, for his contribution to the media. He said that his capability and wit will always be unmatched.
