Gene Shalit Says Goodbye To “The Today Show”

Nov 11, (THAINDIAN NEWS) After 40 years of his successful career, the film and book critic Gene Shalit has announced that he would be leaving “The Today Show”. Gene Shalit has filled the role of a book and film critic since 1973 and he is well known for his frequent use of puns, his over-sized mustache and also his colorful ‘bowties’. The fans of “The Today Show” are disappointed as they will not be able to see Gene Shalit from the next episodes.
In his statement Gene Shalit said that serving “The Today Show” for four decades is enough for him and he does not want to prolong his career in the talk show anymore. A repute media source reported that Gene Shalit has been reviewing Motion Pictures, books and plays on television and on the major magazines of United States for about 45 years. The media source also mentioned that Gene Shalit is among the most influential film critics and “leading” interviewers of veteran international stars of the nation. The 85 year old critic reportedly said through his representative that he is looking forward to some other projects in future. “The Today Show” officials said that they are panning to pay salute to the veteran film critic on their Saturday’s show.
The executive producer of “The Today Show”, Jim Bell said that Gene Shalit is not only the treasure of “The Today Show”, he is also an American Icon and television legend. The executive producer said that the whole cable network and cast and crew of “The Today Show” salute him for his contribution to the show. He also added that his contribution will not be matched by anybody else as he served the show for 40 years in an “unprecedented” way.
