Geico fires voiceover actor
April 22nd, 2010 - 7:22 pm ICT by Pen Men At WorkApril 22, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Los Angeles actor, Lance Baxter, better identified as D.C. Douglas, who has performed the voiceover for Geico commercials, has been fired by Geico. In a press release, Douglas uttered that he has been dropped from the forthcoming Geico ‘Shocking News’ campaign. This was after Douglas had left a message with the press shop at Freedom Works.
Mark Kibbe, chief executive of Freedom Works, posted the audio of the phone call online in which Douglas desired to know the percentages of the people, who are psychologically retarded, who function for the organization and are members of it. He also asked how Freedom Works will spin it when one of their members actually slays somebody.
Douglas, justifiably displeased after being fired, declared that he had called as an ordinary citizen in order to protest against the Tea Party movement. This movement, Douglas claims, has been culpable of encouraging hate speech. Douglas divulged that he is apologetic for his inapt words in his communication but disparaged Freedom Works for pressuring Geico to fire him.
Douglas has checked with numerous Los Angeles legal representatives and has been recommended that Freedom Works’ measures were debatable. However, Douglas voiced that he doesn’t intend to use up any cash to sue Freedom Works. However, he would like to unearth an attorney to sue pro-bono for him.
Geico has since conducted auditions to replace the voice of Douglas on the commercials.
