Los Angeles, Feb 1 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Gay rights activists are very pleased that the anti-gay musician Buju Banton lost at the Grammy Awards 2010. He was nominated for the best reggae album award for his “Rasta Got Soul”, but he didn’t win the award. The members of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, and the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center had placed a full page advertisement in the Daily Variety on the 29th Jan 2010, in which they urged the Grammy organizers to ‘denounce his “hateful work”’.
When the gay rights group had learnt that Buju Banton was nominated for a Grammy, then they were quite unhappy with the development. The gay community is up in arms against the musician as the lyrics of his song “Boom, Bye Bye” in 1988, promote the murder of gay men by shooting or burning. He is against the gay community, and had even got quittance in a gay-bashing attack against him in Kingston Jamaica in 2005. He had allegedly bashed up men, whom he thought were involved in gay activities.
It may be recalled that the Jamaican Reggae star Buju Banton is in the dock for drug possession charges in Florida. He is also known as Mark Anthony Myrie. He is under the US Federal Custody since his arrest in December.
