Gary Glitter plans German hip surgery to escape Britain
January 4th, 2009 - 2:36 pm ICT by ANILondon, Jan 4 (ANI): Pop paedophile Gary Glitter is reportedly planning to escape Britain by claiming that he desperately needs a hip surgery abroad.
The shamed singer is currently barred from leaving the UK. The six-month order was imposed in September when he told police monitoring him he wanted to visit France and then Spain, where the age of consent is 13.
Now the 64-year-old is set to use the Human Rights Act to allow him to go to Germany for a new hip.
He claims that the operational is very important but insists he does not want it performed in the UK where he is reviled.
Police fear that once in Europe, Glitter will find it easy to travel through relaxed EU borders and vanish.
Britain has some of the strictest restrictions in the world in monitoring sex offenders and everyone is keen to keep him here, News of the World quoted a source, as saying. (ANI)
