Gary Glitter drops legal battle to avoid signing sex offenders register
January 17th, 2009 - 6:12 pm ICT by ANILondon, Jan 17 (ANI): English glam rock singer Gary Glitter, who has been convicted of sexual offences, has decided to drop his legal battle in order to avoid signing the sex offenders register.
Glitter had tried to escape the safeguard after returning to the UK from a three-year prison sentence in Vietnam, and his legal appeal had been set to take place on February 19.
He was expected to appear in person, but his solicitor has withdrawn the appeal in a letter to Harrow Crown Crown, reports the daily star.
The message claimed Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, would not get a fair trial because of the media interest.
His dropping the case means that his name and personal details will remain on file for life, and that he will have to tell police if he moves or wants to travel abroad for more than two days.
Glitter had tried to fight signing the sex offenders register saying his Vietnam conviction was a travesty of justice. (ANI)
