Gap Band Bassist Robert Wilson Passes Away Aged 53

gapNew York, Aug 17, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Robert Wilson, who is best known as the bassist for the funk and the R&B band ‘Gap Band’ passed away on Sunday after suffering from a heart attack. It has been reported that the much acclaimed musician breathed his last at his home in Palmdale, California after he had a massive cardiac arrest. The news of the Robert Wilson’s death has come as a major shock to all the die-hard followers of the rock group as the musician formed one of the most integral parts of the three-member R&B group.

The fact that Robert Wilson is no more has been confirmed by Karen Lee, who is the publicist of ‘Gap Band’ singer and his brother Charlie Wilson. At the same time, the ‘Gap Band’ singer has released a statement on Monday, reacting to the demise of his brother in which he remembered Robert Wilson and his contribution to the band. In the statement, Charlie Wilson recalled the kind of relationship that he had with his brother saying that they bonded as brothers, musicians as well as friends while pointing out that with the death of the ‘Gap Band’ bassist, the world of music had lost a highly talented person.

The R&B band ‘Gap Band’ was formed by the three brothers Charlie, Robert and Ronnie Wilson way back in the late 1960’s in their hometown, Tulsa, Oklahoma. However, it was not until the late 1970’s that the rock band was able to attain recognition and in the 1980’s, the ‘Gap Band’ reached the pinnacle of success with chart-topping hits such as “You Dropped a Bomb On Me,” “Yearning for Your Love,” to name a few.
