From Kaal to Kurbaan

Karan Johar had written the story for Kurbaan about six or seven years ago. The film was supposed to star Shah Rukh Khan, Tabu and Sanjay Dutt. It was to be directed by Nikhil Advani and all the other details were finalized too. But, for some reason, it didn’t get made then.
After all this time, Karan’s wish to make Kurbaan is finally coming true, with Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Vivek Oberoi and with Rensil D’Silva directing it. According to sources, Kurbaan was earlier titled Kaal, which became the name of one of Karan’s films. But when he narrated the story to Rensil, the latter structured a screenplay that changed the film altogether and made it Kurbaan. Since then, Saif and Kareena were the first choice for the film. The film has been written and directed by Rensil D’Silva but the story’s credit goes to Karan.
