London, June 11 (IANS) Troubled British rocker Pete Doherty has commissioned a sculpture of himself on a cross for his upcoming solo show in London. Thesun.co.uk reports that the work will be carved in marble and will show him tortured and surrounded by strips of newspaper, which is supposed to symbolise his crucifixion by the media. Doherty’s friend Nick Reynolds is working on the project.

The work will appear on stage with Doherty at his performance at Royal Albert Hall on July 12. Reynolds says he came up with the idea a long time back.

Reynolds said: “I was quite pally with Michael Hutchence and Paula Yates and their love affair - like Pete and Kate Moss’ - went a bit sour. The negative press put a downward spiral on them. And when I saw the press that Pete was getting, it made me think of them. I saw the same pattern. As if Pete was being crucified by the press.”
