Dec.17, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Fred Honsberger, the iconic radio personality associated with KDKA-AM radio, recently passed away at the age of 58. According to the reports obtained from the station, his demise was preceded by a long battle with medical conditions. His association with KDKA dates back to 1979. He started as a reporter there but owing to his skill and dedication was promoted to the post of News Director. From 1984 to 1989 he continued in that position. After that he shifted focus entirely to hosting talk shows.

He suffered a series of ailments from 2004 that culminated in his death. The radio personality, while being popular with his listeners, was known for his argumentative nature. He often disagreed with the guests and callers on his talk show without getting offensive. Fred Honsberger used to suffer from weight related problems and it led to other physical complications. After a gastric bypass surgery he was able to shed 140 pounds. He was a supporter of the Salvation army. In his illustrious carer, Fred Honsberger won a number of broadcasting awards that speak for his achievements.

When he became a talk show host on KDKA radio, his popularity shot up. Some of his listeners loved hearing him disagreeing with the callers. A lot of his fans posted condolence notes on his Facebook profile after the news of his demise became public. Even the mayor of Pittsburgh said that with Fred Honsberger’s death, the region lost a great radio personality who had a sweeping influence on public opinion- particularly on political matters. He has left behind his wife and two sons.
