Francis Ford Coppola Honored At Pre-Oscar Bash

wallach-coppola-barlow_3201Los Angeles, Nov 15, (THAINDIAN NEWS) After having left his mark in the field of Oscar awards, renowned director Francis Ford Coppola was honored at the Second Annual Governors Award held in Los Angeles. Others including French director Jean Luc Goddard, character actor Eli Wallach along with film historian Kevin Brownlow were also honored at the ceremony on Sunday.

This can be considered as a sneak peek of the honorable ceremony of the Governor’s Ball which will be held after the prestigious 83rd Academy Awards which is scheduled to take place on February 27 next year. The event of the Annual Governors Award was introduced last year as a mark of respect towards the Honorary Oscar and Irving Thalberg Award honorees. Francis Ford Coppola was honored with the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award which is rarely-bestowed, for his contributions as a producer in the world of movies. The renowned director has produced or executive produced more than 50 motion pictures which went on to earn 63 Academy Award nominations and finally achieving 15 Oscars. An elated and emotional Francis Ford Coppola said that having grown up in an age where he learnt so much from great people like Irving Thalberg, Orson Welle, Stanley Kubrick, John Frankenheimer which inspired his works, he loves adding marvelous dimensions to his work.

Writer-director Sofia Coppola had a good reason to rejoice and was seen raising a toast to his well acclaimed father with the crew of Francis Ford Coppola’s upcoming movie ‘Somewhere’ cheering for the veteran director. Last year, this event did not get to see much of celebrated artists whereas this year drew a contrast when presence of big shots like Natalie Portman, Aaron Eckhart, Robert Duvall, Ryan Gosling, Hillary Swank, among others.
