Founder of Bossa Nova - Johnny Alf dies

alf Rio De Janeiro, Mar 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The founder of the Bossa Nova music – Johnny Alf has succumbed to his battle with prostrate cancer. He was 80 years old. A statement from the hospital also confirmed his death, which is located near Sao Paulo. They said in the statement that Johnny Alf died due to multiple organ failure on Thursday.

The 1929 born Johnny Alf was basically a pianist, but he was regarded as the ‘true father of Bossa Nova’ by the legendary Ruy Castro. The most definitive history of this variety of music was authored by Ruy Castro. The Brazilian born Alf was a well-known aficionado of the early Jazz era in the American music scene. It can be easily seen that it was a major influence on his albums, and other work as well. Some people are also of the opinion that the early American jazz had a major influence on Bossa Nova as well. Johnny released 46 albums, with which were in collaboration with other musical artists. In his illustrious career he released just 9 solo records. In 1955 he released the songs – ‘Rapaz de bem’ and ‘O Tempo e o vento’ and these songs spearheaded the musical journey of Bossa Nova.
