Jan 21, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Food Network channel was internationally launched on November 9, 2009 in UK, after which it spread to different parts of the world. The channel, at one time became one of the favorites to people who loved to watch television series that showed cooking. However, the channel is starting to lose its popularity since it seems that it is getting too monotonous with the taste of the people and is not being able to provide anything innovative. The channel is slowly losing out on the TRPs which at one point of time had remained at a very high point. Unfortunately, this is their first major ratings fall-off as reported by a leading news source of the nation on Thursday.
In the last quarter of 2010, Food Network channel posted a 10.3% decline among the viewers who were aged between 25 years to 54 years. This group of viewers are considered to be the main target group for the advertisers, if newspaper reports are to be taken into consideration. The 10.3% decline came after the ratings of the channel dropped to 4.5% in its previous, i.e., the third quarter and 3.3% fall in the second quarter. This is something that is harmful to the producers of the channel since the ratings of the ratings of the channel are consistently dropping. In addition to this, the prime-time ratings for women has also dropped in December last year. This could be a possible sign that the people looking for programs on cookery might surf to some different channel in search of entertainment.
It is no wonder that the channel is losing its TRP, by and by. However, there are shows like “Kitchen Nightmares” which still continue to have a good viewership. The question that rises here is that whether or not only one such program in the whole channel would be able to retain the viewership or make way for the channel to go up to high TRP levels!
