First cloned puppies of beloved pet pooch make their debutAugust 6th, 2008 - 4:57 pm ICT by ANI
London , Aug 6 (ANI): Bernann McKinney has become the first person in the world to get her dead dog Booger cloned, after she lost her much-loved pooch to cancer.
Bernann, of Hollywood , US , was very attached to Booger, who had saved her life by attacking a dog three times his size as it savaged her.
Heartbroken Bernann, had got cells from Booger frozen when he died. She then contacted South Korean firm RNL Bio which carried out the cloning using two surrogate mum dogs.
The DNA from the cells was fused with eggs from two mixed breed Korean dogs to produce embryos, which were transplanted into the surrogate mums who gave birth to the pups.
Bernann sold her house to pay 25,000 pounds to scientists for producing five copies of her Pitbull terrier Booger. These dogs are the first to be cloned commercially for a pet owner.
Its a miracle! I can laugh and smile again, The Sun quoted her, as saying.
When she hugged the week-old black clones of Booger, she said: Yes, I know you! You know me too! (ANI)
