Film Makers to raise Dam Issue

September 9, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Dams have always been a major topic for controversies. They have satisfied only a minority group. Several environmentalists have stood against the construction of the dams but their protests have never been fruitful. This time there are two film makers coming up with a documentary and a full length feature film based on dam expressing their protest against the walls build on rivers.
The Oscar winning film maker James Cameron who has announced that he is planning to shoot a 3D movie on dam which will highlight the difficulties of indigenous people of Brazil, who are facing displacement over the construction of a dam on the Amazon river. Cameron, who focused on fictitious Pandora land and its inhabitants Na’vi people in blockbuster Avatar, wants to show his support to the local tribes. Cameron has been vocal against the construction of the Belo Monte hydroelectric dam project on the Xingu River.
Similarly, Sohan Roy is coming up with his movie DAM 999 based on dam disaster. The story revolves around a hundred year old dam and populace living around it. The movie raises the environmental issues that are caused by the construction of dam and how it affects the inhabitants in that area. The movie readied to release in December will plea to protest against the dams that are constructed for self interest. The movie is a tribute to those who live under the terror of dam collapse.
Through the movies these two film makers are trying bring into light the environmental issues of the dams.
