Whenever bolly-stars have attempted multiple roles, they have accomplished them with conviction. More than actors, it’s the directors for whom they say it is a challenge worth appreciation. Nevertheless, actors too prove their prowess. And latest entrant in this very small yet pivotal list of talented actors is Priyanka Chopra. Being the first ever actress to enact multiple roles in Ashutosh Gowariker’s “What’s Your Raashee’ has got Priyanka an entry in prestigious Guinness Book of World Records. And she is all set for another milestone to accomplish with Vishal Bhardwaj’s “7 Husbands’ where she will be donning seven roles. Now, this feat of Priyanka gives us an opportunity to take a sneak peak in the past and list down the actors in Hindi cinema who have attempted multiple roles in films.
Sanjeev Kumar: Loaded with oodles of talent Sanjeev Kumar was the first-ever actor to do multiple roles in Hindi cinema. With “nau avatars’ in “Naya Din Nayi Raat’ he broke the records and became the most sought after actor of his time. With the make-up, and costumes complimenting the nine characters he played, Sanjeev Kumar gave a stellar performance that was etched in the memories of audience. He suited the roles so perfectly, that nobody could be imagined to do the same with so much conviction.
Kamal Haasan: “Dashavatar’ though didn’t fair well at the box-office, but Kamal Haasan got loads of laurels for his indisputably commendable performance in ten roles. He was appreciated for all his attires especially as a scientist and the ex-CIA officer. His make-up and costumes again are worth a watch in the film.
Govinda: His small yet noticeable multiple roles in “Hadh Kardi Aapne’ displayed Govinda’s versatility as an actor. From an angry grandfather to drunken father, he played out the character of each of his family member with an amazing ease. His versatility as an actor found a new dimension with this film.
Shekhar Suman: Another actor in this league who showed versatility as an actor is Shekhar Suman. Suman donned nine characters in David Dhawan’s “Chor Machaye Shor’. In fact, the movie indeed did ride on the nine terrific performances of this actor, which gets a mentionable appreciation every time actors in multiple roles are discussed.
Randeep Hooda: This actor got his hands on 18 roles in “Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye’ at the early stages in his career. “Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye’ bombed at the box-office, but Randeep proved his potential with confidence.
Sonu Sood: Last but not the least, Sonu Sood who played 11 different garbs in “Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge’ was much appreciated for his performances. Sonu too got a real boost in his career with this film.
