samsung_ue40c7000_internettv1Dec 22, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The recent announcement on net neutrality by the FCC has taken the tech and web service industry by storm with the rules getting both accolades and brickbats. The political leaders are also divided in their opinion about the feasibility of the new rules. The democrats and US president has praised the new rules but the opponent GOP leaders have slammed it saying it is nothing but a set of unnecessary regulations. The laws are going to introduce different norms for the wired and wireless web service providers and hence it will change the way people browse the world wide web when they are implemented. It seems like future US based web TV service providers including Google, Microsoft would be affected by these rules.

Google and Microsoft are working on plans to offer advanced pay-TV packages to the users that can result in the users deserting costlier subscriptions offered by cable companies such as Time Warner Cable and Comcast Corp. The companies that offer online media rental services have approached FCC saying how they will find it hard to get revenue once the new rules are put in effect. These entities include DISH Network Corp, a satellite TV operator, Netflix Inc, a top movie streaming service provider and Internet telephony service provider Skype. They fear the new rules will make it easy for ISPs to favor their service and contents.

The National Cable & Telecommunications Association hailed the plan of FCC though. There are some technical glitches that have prevented the likes of Google and Microsoft to come up with full fledged web TV service. The apprehension that they can get bottlenecked by cable providers is also looming large.
