Ex-Letterman writer alleges sexual favouritism on talk show
October 28th, 2009 - 2:37 pm ICT by ANISydney, October 28 (ANI): A former writer for American talk show host David Letterman has alleged that she quit the job in part because of sexual favouritism and a hostile work environment.
Nell Scovell, writing for Vanity Fair online, recalled the time when she worked for five months with NBC’s Late Night with David Letterman in 1990.
“I wanted to shine a light on gender inequality in that particular workplace,” the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Scovellas saying in a telephone interview.
She wrote in the Vanity Fair article: “Did he pay me enough extra attention that it was noted by another writer? Yes. Was I aware of rumours that Dave was having sexual relationships with female staffers? Yes.”
She continued: “Did that make me feel demeaned? Completely. Did I say anything at the time? Sadly, no,”.
Scovell added: “I was not going to thrive professionally in that workplace. And although there were various reasons for that, sexual politics did play a major part.”
Letterman confessed having bedded a number of his female staffers that led to an alleged blackmail plot. (ANI)
