EU congratulates makers of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’February 23rd, 2009 - 10:09 pm ICT by IANS
Brussels, Feb 23 (IANS) European Union Monday congratulated the makers of the film “Slumdog Millionaire” which won eight Oscars at the 81st Academy Awards ceremony in Hollywood. The film was co-funded under the EU’s film support programme MEDIA.
“I congratulate the makers of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ for their success, which is as breathtaking as the film’s rags-to-riches plot,” said EU Media Commissioner Viviane Reding in a press statement.
The film received 830,000 euro support from the MEDIA programme for distribution in 2008 and 2009, a EUAsiaNews release said. The total budget of the film is estimated to be 11 million euros.
“The scale of the triumph, be it the eight Oscars or its popularity with audiences worldwide, shows that the support by the EU’s MEDIA programme is paying off,” Reding added.
