Ethics Charges Against Charlie Rangel Produce Worries For His Political Comrades
July 24th, 2010 - 5:17 pm ICT by Sampurn WireWashington, July 24, 2010 (Just Flashed): African-American Charlie Rangel happens to be a well-known Democrat of New York. Accusations pertaining to ethical violations had been leveled against Rangel recently. These ethics charges against him are now generating problems for his political comrades.
Rangel has had an extensive career in the Congress. This 40-year congressional old hand has divulged that he will now battle determinedly to do away with the dirt on his name and character. Nevertheless, only a small amount of well-known Democrats are raising their voices for him.
The controversy surrounding Rangel is an especially incommodious state of affairs for the Democrats of New York. The Democratic constituents of New York have profited for several years from Rangel’s campaign-related donations and his impassioned promotion of the state.
If the Democrats select the alternative of disparaging Rangel, it may seem like an opportunistic move guided by political expediency. This move could also magnetize the indignation of the Congressional Black Caucus. Nonetheless, if the Democrats overlook the ethics charges against Rangel by exhibiting quietness, then they certainly will be susceptible to Republican accusations that the Democratic Party is not a castigator of those people accused of ethical infringements.
An additional dilemma for many of New York’s prominent elected officials is a planned campaign fundraiser on August 11 for Rangel. The fundraiser will be hosted by Governor David Paterson and will be presided over by a greater part of the influential section of the state’s Democratic Party.
