London, Aug 3 (IANS) Steven Spielberg’s “ET” has been voted as the most popular family film of all time in a poll.
The film starring Henry Thomas and Drew Barrymore has beaten “The Jungle Book” and “Shrek” to land the top spot in Radio Times poll, reports mirror.co.uk.

“ET is the perfect family film - a magical tale for children, a triumph of special effects and a chastening lesson to bigots everywhere,” said film critic Barry Norman.

“Spielberg’s gift for creating tension, exploding it with a laugh and then letting it build again is superbly displayed as we follow the effort of Thomas and friends to help ET avoid capture and return home,” Norman added.

The top 10 most popular family films are:

1. ET (1982)

2. The Wizard of Oz (1939)

3. Mary Poppins (1964)

4. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968)

5. Toy Story (1995)

6. Shrek (2001)

7. Willy Wonka & Chocolate Factory (1971)

8. Back to the Future (1985)

9. Jungle Book (1967)

10. The Sound of Music (1965)
