Errors galore on Indian film fest’s T20 website
November 28th, 2009 - 8:12 pm ICT by IANSPanaji, Nov 28 (IANS) The official website of a contest called T20, floated at the 40th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) here in Goa, with the intention to rank top 20 films of Indian cinema over the last 96 years, continues to be ridden with factual errors.
www.t20ofindiancinema.com which contains hastily uploaded pictures and descriptors accompanying the 100 films suggested by the T20 jury has mixed up Pattabhi Rama Reddy’s 1970s Kannada movie “Samskara”, with “Samsara”, a film shot in Ladakh.
While “Samskara” will be remembered for its plot based on caste complexities and a stellar performance by renowned actor Girish Karnad, “Samsara” is a romance adventure best known for its love scenes.
Several visitors logging on to the website have already left screaming notes such as “film name not ’samsara’ its ’samskara’. pic also wrong…plzzzchange it….” asking the hosts to correct the mistakes, but to no avail.
The late Smita Patil has also not been spared the blushes by the contest organisers.
Patil’s critically acclaimed central role in the biopic “Bhumika” released in 1977, where she plays the flamboyant actress Hansa Wadkar, has been confused with “Sangte Aika” a Marathi film starring Chandrakant and Jayashri Gadkar made in 1959.
A descriptor on the Naseeruddin Shah starrer “Paar” has been coupled with a poster featuring a bearded South indian actor and a tackily dressed actress.
Interestingly, immensely popular films like “Chameli Memsahab” starring Mithun Chakravarty and several other popular films do not even find any visual representation, despite being featured in the top 100 list of Indian cinema.
The contest has invited film buffs across the globe to rank their top 20 Indian films by Nov 29.
Those entries which match the choice of the top 20 films in Indian cinema drawn by the official T20 jury will be flown in to the IFFI closing ceremony and felicitated here.
Speaking to IANS, Manoj Srivastava, chief executive officer of the Entertainment Society of Goa, the co-host of the IFFI, said that the T20 contest was a part of the run up to the festival and an integral part of the festivities fringing the event.
“If there are any errors, please bring them to our notice. We will redress them,” Srivastava said.
