Epatha Merkerson to bid goodbye to ‘Law & Order’

sad Los Angeles, Apr 5 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Epatha Merkerson is bidding goodbye to the NBC drama ‘Law & Order’ after being an integral part of the show for 16 years. She had joined the show in 1993, as police Lt. Anita Van Buren. Since the start of the show, she has played a strong and a strict supervisor in the Manhattan police department.

In the current season of ‘Law & Order’ Merkerson is battling against cancer, and this could be the reason behind her departure from the show. According to some reports, however she is not going to die on the show. “Not necessarily,” Merkerson told Entertainment Weekly, which first reported her planned exit. “How ever they decide to take her out, it’ll be worthy of the character. Either way, it’ll be great for me because I get to act it.”

There are also rumors that ‘Law & Order’ might not have another season, as in the recent years, the ratings for the show have suffered a downward spiral. In case there is a new season of the show, then it would hold the record of the TV’s longest-running drama. Presently ‘Law & Order’ and ‘Gunsmoke’ are tied for the record of the TV’s longest-running drama.
