April 5, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Epatha Merkerson has enacted the no-nonsense supervisor, Lt. Anita Van Buren, on the long-running crime drama on television, Law & Order. She will be quitting the show at the conclusion of the current season. She possesses the record of appearing in the 345th episode of Law & Order. That surpassed Michele Lee’s (Knots Landing) record of 344 episodes for an actress on a single series.
On the topic of her decision, Epatha uttered that it is the conclusion of her agreement this year. The plot has been so wonderful. She has given it her best for 16 years. Now, she feels that it is time to move on. She has stated that she is doing other things and this will be a grand way to depart from what has been an astonishing engagement.
The show, which has gone through many transformations in cast, is, at present, in its 16th season. Nonetheless, the departure of Merkerson raises a query about its future. She initially united with the show in the 4th season, taking over the supervisor’s character from Captain Doc Cragen, who was removed from the show.
Law & Order is the second-largest running drama series next only to ‘Gunsmoke’. However, its waning viewership in the past few seasons has put its future in distress and the disappearance of Merkerson is definitely not excellent news for the NBC show.
NBC, which will certainly supply Merkerson an electrifying exit, is still to discover a substitution for the 57-year-old.
