September 23rd, 2010 - 12:12 pm ICT by Sampurn WireSeptember 23, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): In an act to support a variety of Filipino organizations to hold up the Save Our Industries or SAVE Act, Mr. Willy C. Gaa, the Philippine ambassador to America, met all the leaders of these organizations. There are several other officials from the embassy attending the meeting.
The proper carrying out of this Act will take the level of both textile and trade between the United States and Philippines to a completely new level. This would be a positive approach to both the nations and to the apparel industries that exist here.
The enactment would also in a way improve profitable well-being of the US textile industry as well as that of the apparel industry in Philippines. This was stated by the ambassador.
The Philippine-made apparel products that are produced by means of US fabrics will also get duty-free access in the US market thanks to the SAVE Act . The SAVE act was ushered in by Mr. Jim McDermott (D-WA) and was then co-sponsored by Mr. Brian Bilbray (R-CA), in June last year.
About 80 percent of Philippine’s complete garment exports are shipped to America. These exports have condensed to around $1 billion in the year 2009 from the initial figure of $2.1 billion in the year 2006. The duties enforced vary from 17 to 33 percent.
