Emmy Nominations Entered Two For The Show; Four For Conan, None for Leno
July 9th, 2010 - 12:27 am ICT by Angela Kaye MasonJuly 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Although there were two suggestions made to get Emmy Nominations for ‘The Tonight Show’, some were shocked when the results were released today. As the nominations were announced this morning in Los Angeles California, the current host of the show got a slap in the face as it’s former host got the nomination.
Jay Leno, and NBC made quite a scene when Leno reclaimed his job as host of ‘The Tonight Show’ on March 1. NBC was said to have shoved Conan out the door, citing bad ratings, and he was given a 43 million dollar “Hush Deal”to remain silent. He was also not allowed to be on television for many months, and went on a tour named “Conan: The Legally Banned From Being Funny On Television Tour.” He was allowed to return to television on May 1.
The Academy voters could have nominated either or both of the ‘Tonight Show’ versions, only Conan won the vote. Conan personally put his own suggestion in for his nomination, while NBC suggested Leno. Conan’s nomination was four best variety, music or comedy series.
Many are finding it quite ironic that NBC will be hosting the Emmy Awards this year, which means that Conan’s acceptance speech, should he win, would be aired on the network. Conan later Tweeted, “Congrats to my staff on 4 Emmy nominations. This bodes well for the future of The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien.” A complete list of 2009-2010 Emmy Nominations can be found below.
