Emma Thompson blasts UK’s Victorian principles for working mumsJune 7th, 2009 - 11:09 am ICT by ANI
London, June 7 (ANI): Emma Thompson feels working mothers in Britain often suffer from Victorian aged British attitudes.
The British actress, who is mum to daughter Gaia, nine, and informally adopted Rwandan son Tindyebwa Agaba, 21, said the country offers little to those juggling between their family and career.
“There is more pressure on women in particular of course but I think that’s changing,” The Daily Express quoted her as saying.
“It depends where you are in the world. It’s not brilliant here in Britain compared to, for example, Scandinavia - maternity leave and everything is different and they’re much more clued in to what parents and children need.
“We still have quite a lot of Victorian principles hanging on, you can see it and feel it,” she added.
The 50-year-old recently announced she would be taking a year long break from acting and writing. (ANI)
