abbey London, Feb 21 (THAINDIAN NEWS) There was a lot of speculation that the iconic Abbey Road music studio was for sale. But the recording label EMI that owns the studio clarified that, the studio is not for sale. However according to Terra Firma, the recording label is looking for a partner, so that they can upgrade the studio, and make it more technologically advanced.

“EMI confirms that it is holding preliminary discussions for the revitalization of Abbey Road with interested and appropriate third parties,” Terra Firma said. However they also added that this does not imply that the studio is for sale. “In mid-2009, we did receive an offer to buy Abbey Road for in excess of £30 million (currently about $46 million), but this was rejected since we believe that Abbey Road should remain in EMI’s ownership,” the music company said in a statement.

The studio is located at No. 3 Abbey Road, St. John’s Wood, and the recording company EMI bought it in the late 1920’s to make the first customized recording studio. The inauguration ceremony of the studio was held on the 12th November 1931, and the chief guest of honor at the ceremony was the famed British classical music composer Edward Elgar. He also conducted an all-male orchestra, through his “Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1″.
