Cheshire, Sept 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The holy bible belonging to Elvis Presley and used by him till his death has been sold for a whopping £59,000. The bible was one of the items in the whole lot of Elvis memorabilia put for auction on Sunday in the city of Cheshire.

The bible was gifted to Elvis in 1957 on his first Christmas by his Uncle Vester and Aunt Clettes in Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee. The bible is reported to be full of annotations, handwritten notes and thoughts of Elvis.

Sunday’s auction was being speculated to fetch somewhere between £25,000 - £40,000 however the holy book went for much more than the expected price.

Karen Fairweather, from the auctioneers, told the BBC, “It was a really exciting atmosphere in the room, we had 300 people and there was bidding online and on the telephone across the world.”. She further said “You could hear a pin drop when it sold for that price.”

In a twist, Elvis Presley’s soiled underpants which were also on auction along with many other Elvis memorabilia failed to meet the reserved price and remained unsold. The reserved price for the unwashed underpants was set at £7000 for which there were no takers.

The Sunday’s auction at the Omega Auctions in Stockport, Cheshire was put up by a British collector of the Elvis memorabilia.
