Mexico, Apr 2 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A stage was being set up for Sir Elton John’s concert in Mexico, but unfortunately a portion of it collapsed. Three workers were also injured in the mishap. The stage was being put up at the Chichen Itza ruins in Mexico, when the feeble lighting rig gave way, and the stage too followed suit. Fortunately enough, no damage was caused to the thousands of years old Mayan ruins. Out of the three injured workers, two had minor injuries, but the third worker is now recuperating from a broken leg.

Sir Elton John was not present when the incident happened, and the organizers pacified the fans that the concert would be held, as per the schedule. They also said that the upper lightning structure was not strong enough, and was responsible for the disaster. They also added that experts have been called in, for a thorough investigation.

Many Mexican citizens are not in favor of having such events amongst the ruins. They claim that such events demean their historic sites, and also endanger the ruins too. However this is not the first time that a concert is being held amongst the ruins. The first concert there was held in 1997 by Luciano Pavarotti, and since then more than 6 concerts have been held there.
